There are few heavy metal bands that have managed to scale the heights that Judas Priest have during their 40 year career – originally formed during the early ’70s in Birmingham, England, Judas Priest is responsible for some of the genre’s most influential and landmark albums (1980’s ‘British Steel,’ 1982’s ‘Screaming for Vengeance,’ 1990’s ‘Painkiller,’ etc.) and for decades have been one of the greatest live bands in the entire heavy metal genre including an iconic performance at Live Aid in 1985 – they also brought metal to the masses by their appearance on American Idol in 2011 – plus Judas Priest were one of the first metal bands to exclusively wear leather and studs – a look that began during this era and was eventually embraced by metal fans throughout the world! And in 2017, the band was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Judas Priest originally formed in the early ’70s in Birmingham, England (an area that many feel birthed heavy metal).
Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, K.K. Downing and Ian Hill would be the nucleus of musicians (along with several different drummers over the years) that would go on to change the face of heavy metal. After a ‘feeling out’ period of a couple of albums, 1974’s ‘Rock Rolla’ and 1976’s ‘Sad Wings of Destiny’ this line¬-up truly hit their stride. The result was a quartet of albums that separated Priest from the rest of the hard rock pack ¬- 1977’s ‘Sin After Sin’, 1978’s ‘Stained Class’ and ‘Hell Bent for Leather’, and 1979’s ‘Unleashed in the East’, which spawned such metal anthems as ‘Sinner’, ‘Diamonds and Rust’, ‘Hell Bent for Leather’, and ‘The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown)’.
It could be said that Priest simply owned the ’80s as they were second to none as far as pure metal goes, releasing such all-time classic albums as 1980’s ‘British Steel’, 1981’s ‘Point of Entry’, 1982’s ‘Screaming for Vengeance’, and 1984’s ‘Defenders of the Faith’. Once more, these titles spawned countless enduring metal anthems including ‘Breaking the Law’, ‘Living After Midnight’, ‘Heading Out to the Highway’, and ‘You’ve Got Another Thing Coming’. The ’80s were also a decade where Priest became a global arena headliner, offering show¬-stopping sets at some of the world’s biggest festivals, including the first¬-ever Monsters of Rock Festival at Donington Park (1980) in the United Kingdom, the US Festival (1983) in the United States and Live Aid (1985) in the United States.
The remainder of the ’80s saw Priest embrace more melodic hard rock sounds on 1986’s ‘Turbo’ and 1988’s ‘Ram it Down’ (in addition to their second live set, 1987’s ‘Priest…Live!’) before releasing arguably the heaviest release of their entire career , 1990’s ‘Painkiller’ (which saw the arrival of Scott Travis on drums). Judas Priest were special guests on the 2004 Ozzfest, appearing alongside Black Sabbath, before issuing ‘Angel of Retribution’ a year later.
In 2017, Priest received a nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with a new studio album, ‘Firepower’
(produced by Andy Sneap and Tom Allom), released in March 2018 to rave reviews. The album sold around 49,000 copies in the United States within its first week of release, debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard200 chart, making it the band’s highest-charting album in the US.

Firepower, and its fourteen tracks, featuring Lightning Strike, Spectre and No Surrender, establishes a familiar riffing ethos immediately with the title track opener, working in leads to accent the rhythmic barrage.
ABOUT BABYMETAL:
BABYMETAL was formed in 2010.
In March 2014, they took the stage at Nippon Budokan for a 2-day gig, making them the youngest female act to perform there. Their 1st studio album BABYMETAL instantly made it to the US Billboard charts. In summer of the same year,
they embarkedon their first world tour, performing on the main stage at UK’s prodigious festival Sonisphere Festival 2014 in front of 65,000festival goers and supporting Lady Gaga on her ArtRave: The Artpop Ball 2014 Tour.
In summer of 2015, BABYMETAL received various awards from prominent UK music magazines KERRANG!and METAL HAMMER and became the first Japanese artist to ever receive these awards. BABYMETAL also performed on the main stage at the massive Reading & Leeds. In April 2016, BABYMETAL had a simultaneous global release for their 2nd album METAL RESISTANCE.
Not only did they make the charts in Japan, they also became the highest-charting Japanese band ever on UK’s Official Albums Chart, landing at no. 15th.
They also reached the 39th spot on its debut on the U.S. Billboard, becoming the first album by a Japanese artist to break into the chart’s top 40 in more than 53years. During that same month, BABYMETAL performed at the prestigious Wembley Arena in the UK, becoming the first Japanese artist to ever headline at the venue. They completed their world tour in September at the Tokyo Dome for a consecutive 2 days with over 110,000 people to witness the massive tour final. Not only have they achieved all of the above, they have performed as special guests in various international locations for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, METALLICA, GUNS N’ ROSES, and KORN. BABYMETAL’s challenge for world domination continues and only the Fox God knows what the future will hold.
